On November 29, 2023, students from Chagrin Falls High School traveled to Cleveland in order to take photographs for their digital and film photography final exams. The field trip began in the Cleveland Flats, where students were given independence and were able to find interesting images on their own. The Flats are a waterfront neighborhood right along the Cuyahoga river and have an array of bridges and roads. However, there was a lot of wind and snow so early in the morning, which made shooting photos in the freezing weather a difficult task for the students. Patrick, a student from the group, said "my hands were so cold I could barely take pictures." After having several hours to search for good image opportunities along the river and meet the criteria for the location, the students returned to the bus and traveled to the West Side Market. The West Side Market is the oldest market space in Cleveland, as it opened more than a century ago in 1912. The buying and selling of goods took place indoors, away from the cold. The students took their images of the different cultures and people throughout the market, capturing the diversity of the historical marketplace. After eating lunch at the market, Chagrin students took one last bus ride to Public Square. Public Square is located in the center of downtown Cleveland and is surrounded by large buildings and complex architecture. The photographers from Chagrin explored the area in the afternoon, recording the Square's history and the interactions between various people through their photos. In the end, the students returned to school after a day full of shooting images for their final exams and a day full of unique experiences from unfamiliar places.
