Chagrin Falls photography students took a day trip to downtown Cleveland for their final exam on December 9th. The first place they visited was the Cleveland Flats. The Cleveland Flats used to be a hub for commerce and manufacturing in the early to mid 1900s, mostly credited to the Cuyahoga river. Pictured to the left is Portfolio Prep Student Maeve Brennan, who states, "I enjoyed exploring the city and photographing the abandoned, industrial architecture". Next, the students traveled to Westside Market. This was an exciting scene, bustling with people and food. Originally opened in 1912, Westside Market is known for it's grand architecture. This includes a 137' tall clock tower, and a high Guastavino tile vaulted ceiling. The food, vendors, and customers were interesting to photograph. Leah Kler, a film photography student, states, "I loved photographing the variety of food there and the interactions between vendors and customers". The final stop was Public Square. Public Square has many historical buildings, including Old Stone, a beautiful 19th century Presbyterian church. Another building visited by many students was the Arcade. The Arcade opened to the public in 1890, and was the first indoor shopping mall in America. It features stunning architecture, spanning over 300ft. and four balconies. Public Square was a favorite among the three locations because of the interesting street scene, and historical interior of many buildings. It was also decorated for the holidays, which made taking photographs even more enjoyable. Overall, this fieldtrip was an amazing experience for many students and allowed them to practice and show off their photography skills.
