In late November of 2017, the digital and film photography classes from Chagrin Falls High School ventured on their annual field trip. On this excursion, the students set out with the goal of capturing unique and interesting images that would be displayed for their final exams. "Students from past years have told me about how much fun these trips were, so I was looking forward to going" said CFHS senior Jack Barr. It was a cold, windy day when the students began their trip. With layers of jackets piled on, and camera bags strapped up, the photographers headed out for downtown Cleveland. The first stop on the trip was Cleveland's iconic Public Square. Dating back to as early as the late 1790's, Public Square is one of Cleveland's most desired attractions (wikipedia.org). The area is full of shops, bowling alleys, arcades, restaurants, etc. Students were given a list of image topics that they must capture, and were sent off to shoot. Even though their fingers were on the verge of succumbing to frostbite, students could not help but marvel at the incredible surroundings of the area. The second location was the ever so popular West Side Market. Opening in 1840, the West Side Market is Cleveland's oldest indoor/outdoor market space (wikipedia.org). Not only were students intended to take pictures at this location, but they were also expected to engage in the market's atmosphere by tasting some of the diverse food that the market had to offer. "I bought about twenty five dollars worth of cheesecake, and it was worth every penny" said Lorenzo Conte, a senior at CFHS. The third and final stop on the trip was the B&O roundhouse. Also known as the Midwest Railway Preservation Society, this institution has the lone goal of restoring old train cars that were used on the famous Baltimore to Cleveland railroad (midwestrailway.org) Here, students were given a brief lesson on the history of the roundhouse, and the work that goes into transforming old trains into ones that look brand new. Students were then allowed to roam the grounds of the roundhouse, basking in the beauty of the dilapidated train cars that lay scattered throughout the area.
